In 2010, seeing the success of Super Meat Boy, the brothers decided to try again. They tried a game in Cuphead’s style in 2000, but decided the tools were not yet in place to achieve what they wanted without compromise.

Their focus became a run and gun game in the style of the 1930s cartoons they had grown up with. Chad and Jared Moldenhauer, two brothers from Ontario, Canada (comic above from StudioMDHR), wanted to pursue their lifelong dream of creating a video game.
